Hospice Waterloo Region Grand Opening

Virtual Launch of the Gies Family Centre

Event overview

In the fall of 2018, construction began on a new 27,000 sq.ft palliative care centre and residential hospice in North Waterloo. By March 2021, the brand new facility was ready for a grand opening celebration. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event took place virtually with a live webcast that streamed to a web portal as well as YouTube and Facebook for easy viewing.

Royal Blue was involved in every aspect of the launch and helped developed the full program, coordinating with our video production team and livestream specialists. The webcast was designed to tell the story of the vision behind the new facility, the challenges faced during the build, support and commitment from the community and the staff and volunteers involved. There was also a virtual ‘pass the scissors’ ribbon cutting ceremony with local members of parliament and dignitaries.

Over 1,000 people registered for the virtual event, the first 200 of whom, received a VIP goodie bag filled with treats and a thank you note. Live tweeting and posting was also encouraged through out the show and posts were shared in real time during the live webcast. Overall, the launch was a huge success.
